The Bihar Education Department's recent directive has mandated that teachers in government schools must reside within a 15-kilometer radius of their respective schools. This order, issued by KK Pathak, Education Department head, aims to address the prevalent issue of teachers arriving late or leaving before school hours due to distant residences. The directive, effective from February 1, 2024, threatens salary stoppage for teachers failing to comply.
With 40 thousand government schools under daily inspection, the Education Department identified tardiness among teachers, often attributed to the distance between their residences and schools. The order intends to mitigate this problem by ensuring teachers' proximity to their schools, fostering punctuality.
